Florence Day 2
Our evening ended– after a three hour dinner involving copious amounts of alcohol– with me tumbling across the street then sliding on my knees for about 10 yards after tripping over a curb. The fall was so violent that used museum tickets and paper money were ejected from my pockets. I call that a great finish to a fantastic day.
Our itinerary included The Accademia, Santa Croce church and climbing all 490+ steps of Giotto’s campanile (while sober thankfully).
Since the only way to convey the feel of Florence is visually, here are some photos from today’s travels:
- On the way up the stairs of Giotto’s campanile
- Street Chalk Artist
- Bronze Cinghale
- John Outside of Santa Croce
- Chapel in Santa Croce

Florence, Italy first night out….
We managed to drag ourselves out tonight after a very long flight and a couple of train rides. We landed in Florence around 4PM and we all were completely spent. Still, we managed to make it out for dinner at the Osteria Cinghale Bianco in Florence’s Oltrarno section. We then took a quick walk around town before heading back to the hotel. Here are a few shots from tonight.
- Ponte Vecchio
- He obviously didn’t want his photo taken
- Evening on Via del Calzaioli

Fall photos from KY…..a warm up for my next big trip.
After 5 years lugging my Canon G9 camera all over the world, I decided to upgrade a bit and just received a shiny new Sony NEX 5N. I was a bit hesistant to depart from the big names in the photo industry–Canon, Nikon, etc.–but I am very satisfied with my decision. I went to the Bernheim Forest in KY this weekend to test out the new toy. Here are a few photos from Sunday. Keep an eye on the blog starting Nov 18 as I start a 2 week trip to Italy (surprise) and Istanbul.
